Junior Grange Contests (2015-16) (in PDF)

 

2015-16 Contests:

  • Open to anyone ages 1 to 14, Junior Grange member and non-members.
  • All entries must be labeled with name, age, sponsoring Grange or Junior Grange, member or non-member, and class.
  • Items will be judged on neatness, creativity, appropriateness and ability for age.
  • All entries are due by noon on Thursday of State Session.
  • There will be 3 age categories: under 5, 5-9 and 10-14.
  • Children may enter more than one item in each class but are limited to no more than 3 items per class.
  • First, Second and Third place will be awarded in each class and age group.
  • Entries will be judged at State session. All entries must be submitted on Thursday morning.

 

Art Contest - Any medium may be used. Maximum size of entry must not exceed 14"x14". There is no minimum.

Photography -Prints only, do not have to be matted or framed. Any size is acceptable.

•  Scenes

•  Animals

•  People

 

Cookies - 6 cookies, exhibited on a disposable base in a zip-lock type bag. The recipe must be included. Cookies will not be returned.

 

Crafts:

•  Holiday Decorations

•  Recycled Craft - any item made using something one generally throws away.

•  Nature Craft - Any item made from nature, (rocks, pinecones, seeds, etc.)

•  Textiles - may use any type of fabric, yarn, thread, etc.

•  Miscellaneous

•  Special Gifts

 

Growth: - Any type of plant that the JR. has grown from a seed or is taken as an offshoot. These will be judged on health of plant as well as creativity of planter. ALL GROWTH PROJECTS WILL BE USED AS TABLE DECORATIONS FOR JUNIOR LUNCHIN.

 

Creative Writing project - Open to member and non-member. May be a poem, story or an essay. Entry may be typed or hand written, double spaced and placed in a protective cover and labeled. There will be three age groups in the Creative Writing project 5-7, 8-10, 11-14. Member only: What would you like to grow and who would help you.

 

Mini-Scrapbook Contest - To capture the activities of the Junior Grange member throughout the year. What did you do? Where did you go? What did you make? This is your journey how did it help you grow?

Creative Art Contest

Must be a picture showing what the Theme means to you.

May use crayons, colored pencils, markers or paints.

Maximum size is 8 ½ x 11 inches.

Public Speaking

Topics: (1) How the Junior Grange Can Grow Across the Nation OR (2) Any Topic of your choice. Speech must be a minimum of 4 min and a maxim 7 min.

Contest held at State Grange in conjunction with the Lectures program.

Sign A Song: Categories:

•  Manually Sign the Alphabet

•  Individual Sign-a-Song Contest

•  Group Sign-A-Song Contest: Two or more Junior Grangers.

Junior Grange Camp - In 2016 there will be 2 different Jr. Grange camps. One will be held in the south western part of Colorado and the other will be held in the north east region. Both of these camps will be a "Grange Camp Out" and will include a fun activities and an age appropriate community service project. Each camp will present all attendees the opportunity to earn multiple merit badges.

 

Talent contest - Junior Talent contest will be held during State Session in conjunction with the lecturer's department talent contest. Three classes: 1: Vocal, 2. Instrumental 3. Comedy. Prizes will be awarded. Please notify director of intent to enter.

 

National opportunities: Theme: "Growing Across the Nation."

Age Groups: (Age groups: 7 and under; 8-10, 11-14)
